Ceramics – basins, toilets and shower trays

Clean regularly after use to stop a build up of dirt and scale.

Use warm soapy water, cream or liquid cleaner. But ensure cleaners are wiped clean with soapy water as metal surfaces will corrode if the metal is left with a build up of bathroom cleaner, avoid the use of harsh bleach based products.

Fix dripping taps as this can prevent stains and the build up of limescale.

Occasional use of mild bathroom limescale removers can help if used in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions. Rinse well with plenty of water immediately after use.

Don’t put bleach in the cistern – this can damage the internal fittings. You can use it in the toilet bowl.

Don’t leave strong cleaners or bleach in the toilet bowl overnight.

Don’t mix different cleaners in the toilet bowl – they can react and give off poisonous gases.

Acrylic baths or shower trays, plastic bath panels

Clean regularly after use to stop a build up of dirt and scale.

Use warm soapy water only.

Fix dripping taps as this can prevent stains and the build up of limescale.

Minor scratches and abrasions can be polished out with a mild polishing compound.

Don’t leave soap or shampoo pools, these can cause permanent stains.

Don’t leave cigarettes/flames near by.

Don’t use household or commercial cleaning chemicals – a range of products such as paint stripper, nail varnish remover, Cif cleaners, household bleach, perfume, aftershave or strong disinfectant can cause damage.

Don’t use any scouring products or cream cleaners.

The use of aromatherapy oils in the bath should not affect the acrylic surface as the water dilutes the oils, but leaving the oil container on the side of the bath can damage the surface if left in contact for long periods of time.

Brassware

Do not use any abrasive sponges or scouring agents for cleaning.

Do not use cleaning agents containing solvent or acid, limescale removers, household vinegar and cleaning agents with acetic acid in them, they are aggressive to the surface.

Clean fittings with a little soap and a moist cloth, then rinse off and wipe dry. Avoid lime spots by drying the fitting after use.

Exposure to periods of damp atmosphere and standing water can cause water ingress – Good ventilation is essential to reduce the risk of ingress.

Shower enclosures

Clean your shower door after every use by wiping down all the glass and metal parts with a soft cloth and removing any residual water. This will help avoid limescale build up, especially in hard water areas.

Don’t clean with gritty or abrasive products as they will destroy surface coatings or protection.

Don’t use powder detergents. Liquid detergents may be used if they are free of alcoholic substances.

Don’t use products such as ammonia, acetone, organic solvents, strippers and alcohol as they will permanently damage the shower enclosure.
